Mutual Exchange
What is a Mutual Exchange?
A Mutual Exchange is when two Social Housing tenants swap homes. It is often a quicker way of securing a move if you can find someone who wants to swap homes with you. An exchange of homes can only take place if both landlords agree to the exchange. Each landlord will have its own Policy but they will generally agree to the exchange if a number of conditions are met, including:
Both tenants have no rent arrears.
Both tenants do not have a history of Anti-Social or Unacceptable Behaviour.
Both properties would not be under-occupied or overcrowded following the exchange.
Both properties are found to have a reasonable standard of decoration maintained by the tenants.
There is no evidence of deliberate damage or neglect of either property.
Mutual Exchanges within the Mersey region can be facilitated through Property Pool Plus. If you are looking to exchange within Wirral, Liverpool, Sefton, Knowsley or Halton, you should register with Property Pool Plus using the link below and select the option for Mutual Exchange. More information on how to do this can be found here.
If you are a Family Housing Association tenant and you would like to exchange homes with someone from outside of the Mersey region, Family Housing Association will cover the cost of a 12 month registration with HomeSwapper. For more information on this process please contact the office.
